Dr. Butch Tsiatis – Cavell Brownie Award 2017-2018

This award is made in recognition of Professor Tsiatis’s outstanding record as advisor and mentor to 41 PhD students (26 at NC State) and the 74 papers co-authored with them. His students are everywhere, many are in academia and full professors now, some serving as department and division heads. In addition, many of his students are in industry and government working with cutting edge medical researchers improving health with world-wide impact. Dr. Tsiatis has also been a frequent collaborator and mentor to junior faculty and has played a key role in the Department’s Biostatistics program. In 2015, Dr. Tsiatis was chosen as an Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor Award, which is a very significant recognition at NC State and a testament to his great contributions to the mentoring and training of graduate students.
