NCSU VPN
In order to work remotely you must download Cisco AnyConnect to connect to NCSU computing resources. Links to download the software can be found at the following site: https://oit.ncsu.edu/campus-it/campus-data-network/vpn/
Once you download and install the VPN client here’s some local recommendations on how to use the software.
If you have DUO APP installed on Phone/Tablet.
- Open DUO APP on Phone/Tablet
- Click NC State University /
- {6 Digit Number from DUO}
- Open Cisco AnyConnect on Computer
- Server: vpn.ncsu.edu
- Login: UNITYID
- Password: MYPACKPASSWORD
- Second Password: {6 Digit Number from DUO}
- {Click} OK
If you have YUBICO (USB) Device.
- Open CHROME
- Goto: https://go.ncsu.edu/dc/
- Click “Generate New Passcode”
- {9 Digit Code from Webpage}
- Open Cisco AnyConnect on Computer
- Server: vpn.ncsu.edu
- Login: UNITYID
- Password: MYPACKPASSWORD
- Second Password: {9 Digit Code from WebPage}
- {Click} OK
Now you “should” be connected to the NCSU VPN server.
Problems
Campus has experienced some issues with some of their VPN servers not knowing the names of STAT machines. So if you are following the instructions to connect to a remote machine and you get an error stating machine is not found here’s your options:
- Disconnect form VPN, wait about 30 minutes and try again.
Hopefully the 2nd time you connect you will get a different server. - Email help@sciences.ncsu.edu asking them for the IP address of the server your trying to connect to.
- Substitute these IP address for servers where applicable if you know how.
