Celebrating Our 2015 Graduates

The Department of Statistics held its spring graduation ceremony on May 9. Roughly 30 undergraduate students and 27 graduate students received degrees. With over 350 attendees, it was the best-attended graduation in the Department’s history.

The commencement speaker was Dr. Dan Solomon, dean of the College of Sciences. Solomon, who is also a professor of statistics, is stepping down from the deanship this summer. He has made an integral impact on the Department, having served as department head from 1981 until 1993. In recognition of his accomplishments and support, the Statistics Commons in SAS Hall was renamed after him. The ceremony also featured remarks from Gina-Maria Pomann, an AT&T and National Science Foundation graduate research fellow. Her current role is senior biostatistician and manager of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute Biostatistics Core. Her advisor is Dr. Ana-Maria Staicu.

Congratulations to all of our graduates. The Department wishes you the best in your future endeavors!
