Celebrating Our Graduates

The Department of Statistics held its spring commencement ceremony on May 13. Undergraduate and graduate students happily received their degrees in front of an audience full of family and friends. Visit the department’s Flickr page to see more pictures from the event.

The commencement speaker was Peter Bloomfield, a professor in the department who recently retired. The ceremony also featured remarks from Maria Jahja, an undergraduate who majored in statistics and economics.

Several award winners were recognized. Jonathan Leirer received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Rui Zhu became a Gertrude M. Cox Achievement Award Fellow and received the Outstanding Ph.D. Qualifier Exam Award. Chengchun Shi received the Paige Plagge Graduate Award for Citizenship. And Alexandra Larsen was awarded the Francis G. Giesbrecht Award for Statistical Consulting.
