Undergraduates connecting through statistical organizations

(Students involved in SUM club forming the word SUM in SAS Hall Lobby)

Statistics students can get involved in various clubs and organizations offered on campus to connect with others with similar interests and career goals. Some of those clubs include:

  • The Statistics Club at NC State serves as a dynamic focal point for a diverse range of activities throughout the academic semester. Beyond providing a platform for recreational games and networking, the club is dedicated to fostering career development among students. Notably, their events feature esteemed guest speakers who share their professional insights and experiences, and offer members a valuable glimpse into the realities of the field. They also help members prepare for internships and other pursuits. Complementing these endeavors, the club also prioritizes academic excellence, with upperclassmen delivering practical guidance on optimal course selection. They invite individuals to join us in cultivating a professional yet enriching environment that seamlessly integrates recreation, career exploration, and academic advancement within the realm of the Statistics Club.
  • The Sports Analytics Club is a student-run organization committed to the quantitative analysis of sports strategy and management. This club is open to all students and faculty at NC State, and is a unit that encourages and enables students to share ideas and complete research projects on any topic related to sports statistics. The club meets approximately every two weeks on Monday nights.
  • The Data Analytics Club is an undergraduate student-run organization that provides resources for students interested in business and the field of data analytics. Associated with the Institute for Advanced Analytics at NC State, students have access to guest speakers and leaders from the industry for networking and recruitment.
  • The Society for Undergraduate Mathematics (SUM) Club is a student organization for students passionate about mathematics. They connect math and statistics undergraduate students and provide them with academic and professional development, leadership, and service opportunities. This is accomplished through social and outreach activities, presentations at meetings, career events, and other college- and university-wide involvement. Open to any student (math major, or otherwise), they meet on Mondays at 7:00 pm in the Undergraduate Math Lounge (SAS 2202) to get to know one another, do math puzzles, play games, learn together, and perform outreach.
