Statistics Club Welcomes a New Year of Activity
The Statistics Club kicked off another school year of meetings and activities on August 29, 2024 with pizza and planning for the year. The meeting drew approximately 40 (graduate and undergraduate) students to the event, as they discussed the goals for the Statistics Club and played a game of trivia regarding the history of the Statistics Department here at NC State.
More broadly, the Statistics Club at NC State offers a valuable opportunity for students to delve into the world of statistical sciences and explore related professions. Whether an undergraduate or a graduate student, the club provides a platform to connect with fellow statistics majors and gain exposure to the real-world applications of statistics beyond the university setting.
The club regularly hosts a variety of events, including talks and seminars led by distinguished speakers (many of whom are NC State alumni). These sessions cover topics ranging from research and careers to educational journeys in the field of statistics. In addition to speaker events, they offer workshops designed to enhance programming skills and build professional networks.
Activities extend beyond the campus with occasional field trips that offer unique experiences, such as collaborating with the FBI in Washington, DC. Currently, they are excited to launch new initiatives, including a podcast and consulting projects within the local community.
The Statistics Club has held regular meetings every other Thursday since August 29, 2024 in SAS Hall, Room 5270. Interested students and those wishing to join the club can contact its officers at statistics-club@ncsu.edu.
