Sports Analytics Club

The NC State Sports Analytics Club is a student organization that brings together a passion for sports and data analysis through opportunities for learning and engagement in a vibrant community.

Activities are varied and engaging, including spirited discussions about sports, hands-on workshops in statistical software for analyzing sports data, guest speaker presentations, and collaborative projects. As a change of pace, the club also enjoys group outings to sporting events.

This semester’s activities were noted to be both greatly enjoyable and insightful. In particular, the club welcomed Rebekah Callari-Kaczmarczyk, a Senior Software Engineer for the Philadelphia Phillies, as a guest speaker to engage with club members. During her in-person visit, she shared her inspiring journey into the sports industry, discussed her experiences working for a professional team, and led an interactive Python workshop using MLB data. Members also attended a Carolina Hurricanes NHL game this fall, fostering camaraderie and providing a fun departure from the regular schedule. The club holds weekly meetings on Wednesdays at 6 PM in SAS 2235, typically lasting for approximately one hour with 25-30 enthusiastic participants in attendance. Those interested in joining the club and/or attending a meeting are encouraged to contact the organization at sportsanalytics@ncsu.edu to be added to the email list for updates and information, particularly because meeting logistics may be subject to change in the spring semester.
