Stat Club
This semester, the Statistics Club at NC State has served as a valuable platform for students to engage with the field of statistical sciences and explore its wide-ranging career opportunities. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students, the club has cultivated a dynamic and inclusive community where members connect, learn, and discover real-world applications of statistics beyond the academic setting.
A key focus this semester was the club’s role in hosting the American Statistical Association (ASA) DataFest – a national hackathon event for statisticians and data scientists. In preparation, the club organized a series of workshops and guest speaker sessions centered on enhancing programming skills and professional networking. These events enabled students to build proficiency in tools such as R, SAS, and Python, while gaining practical insights on forging meaningful industry connections. The club also emphasized student-led communication and support, offering resources and discussions around various areas including research, internships, fellowships, and opportunities in nonprofit consulting.
Looking ahead, the Statistics Club will return in Fall 2025 under new leadership, with a renewed focus on fostering a student-driven community and strengthening connections with alumni. Meetings will be held biweekly on Thursdays in SAS Hall, Room 5270. All interested students are welcome to join as the club continues to grow and provide meaningful opportunities within the statistical sciences. For questions or to get involved, please contact the club at statistics-club@ncsu.edu. Stay tuned for further updates as the Statistics Club continues to evolve and explore the many possibilities that statistics has to offer.
