Faculty Spotlight
The Department of Statistics is proud to celebrate three faculty members whose recent awards reflect excellence across research, teaching, and interdisciplinary engagement. These honors highlight the diverse ways faculty contribute to the department, the university, and the broader statistical community.
Dr. Emily Griffith, Professor of the Practice in the Department of Statistics and Director of Consulting for the Data Science and AI Academy, received the 2025 NC State University Libraries Faculty Award. The award recognizes NC State faculty members who have contributed consistently and notably to advancing the mission, vision, and strategic initiatives of the university libraries. Griffith was recognized for the impact of her work in statistics, her collaborations across disciplines, and her partnership with the Libraries through the university’s Data Science Consulting program. Established during the Libraries’ centennial year in 1989, the award includes an honorarium and formal recognition at the Friends of the Libraries event.
Associate Professor Dr. Srijan Sengupta has been selected to receive the Early Career Award in Statistics and Data Science in the Application category from the International Indian Statistical Association (IISA). This award honors early-career achievement in statistics and data science, particularly work demonstrating strong applied and practical contributions to the field. The award will be formally presented at the next IISA meeting in December 2026 in Varanasi and includes both a plaque and a cash prize. The recognition reflects the international reach of Sengupta’s scholarship and the importance of applied statistical research in solving contemporary problems.
Dr. Elijah Meyer, Assistant Teaching Professor in the department, has received the LeRoy and Elva Martin Award for Teaching Excellence from the NC State College of Sciences. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the College of Sciences’ teaching mission and is presented annually to two assistant professors—one tenure-track faculty member and one professional-track faculty member. Created in 2001 by LeRoy Martin Jr., a longtime NC State mathematics professor, the award honors his parents, Elva and LeRoy Martin. Meyer’s selection highlights his commitment to student success, instructional excellence, and leadership in teaching within the department.
Together, these recognitions demonstrate the department’s continued excellence across scholarship, collaboration, and education, and we congratulate all three faculty members on these recent, well-deserved achievements.
