The Department of Statistics is pleased to welcome Amanda Mejia, Ph.D., as a new associate professor at NC State University. Dr. Mejia joins our department from Indiana University Bloomington, where she served on the faculty before transitioning to NC State. Her research lies at the intersection of statistics and neuroimaging, with connections to data science, engineering, computer science, neuroscience and medicine.

Dr. Mejia directs the Statistical Methods for Individualized Neurodiscovery (StatMIND) Lab, where she and her research team develop statistical and data science methods to improve individual-level measurement of brain function and advance the clinical utility of functional neuroimaging. Her work brings together statistical methodology and interdisciplinary research to address questions related to the study of the human brain.

Dr. Mejia earned her Ph.D. in biostatistics from Johns Hopkins University and both her B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research is supported by two NIH R01 awards and the National Science Foundation.

In addition to her research and teaching, Dr. Mejia serves as an associate editor for Biostatistics and Statistics and Data Science in Imaging and serves on the editorial board of Imaging Neuroscience. Her work has received several honors, including the Indiana University Outstanding Junior Faculty Award in 2023 and selection as the global Johnson & Johnson WiSTEM2D Fellow in Mathematics.
