A minor in statistics is an excellent complement to majors in a wide range of fields. The minor program helps students learn to use statistical methods to summarize information and solve real-world problems.

Introductory Statistics (6 credits, choose one of the two options below)

• Option 1: Take one of these: (ST 311, ST 350, BUS 350, or ST 370) and then take ST 312
• Option 2: Take ST 371 and then take ST 372

Intro to Statistical Programming and Data Science (3 credits)

• ST 115

Statistics Electives (9 credits)

• 9 credits of ST electives
  • Note: the following ST courses can NOT be used as Statistics electives for this minor:  ST 101, ST 114, ST 120, ST 121, ST 307, ST 308, ST 311, ST 312, ST 350, BUS 350, ST 370, ST 371, ST 372, ST 497, ST 499.

Admissions

Due to high demand for courses, students should allow at least three semesters to complete the electives after declaring the minor. Potential minors are encouraged to take ST 115 at the same time they take their first introductory Statistics course so that they can use that coding knowledge in subsequent classes.

Admission requirements for the minor:

• At least 12 NCSU hours passed
• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
• Completion of one of the following with a grade of B- or higher: ST 311, ST 350, BUS 350, ST 370, or ST 371.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher for all ST courses

Certification

The minor must be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects to graduate from their degree program.
