Foundations of Statistics and Probability
Research in the foundations of statistics & probability seeks to identify and understand core principles driving uncertain and approximate reasoning based on data and other relevant information, such as models, utility functions, (incomplete) prior information, etc. Such principles play a key role in determining how mathematical thinking assists in the advancement of science. Our group’s foundational research drives the theoretical and methodological advancements that breathe life into our core principles, which, in turn, informs our solutions to important real-world problems.
