Annual Beach Trip — Cancelled
The NCSU Department of Statistics annual beach trip is for Faculty, Staff, Graduate Students, Emeriti Faculty, Alumni, Families and Friends of the Department. It is scheduled for September 6-8 at Atlantic Towers, Carolina Beach NC.
Ice Cream Social – 2019
The NCSU Statistics Department started off the 2019-2020 academic year with an Ice Cream social. The University’s Howling Cow Ice Cream was a big hit.
2019 SIBS Program
This year the 2019-NCSU-Duke SIBS Data Hack-A-Thon was a data analysis assignment where 20 SIBS participants work in 5 assigned teams to tackle a large, complex data set on opioid drug consumption with the goal of addressing scientific research questions.
David A. Dickey Scholarship Endowment
At Dave Dickey’s Retirement Reception I had the pleasure of announcing that in honor Dave’s incredible career and in recognition of his countless contributions to the Department and the University, an anonymous contribution of $25,000 was made to establish a scholarship in his name.
Dennis D. Boos Fund Announced at JSM 2018
Professor and Associate Department Head of Statistics Dennis Boos has been a pillar of the NC State statistics community for over 40 years.
Dr. Shu Yang — Junior Faculty Enhancement Award 2018
Dr. Shu Yang has won the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award! The award provides funding for research by junior faculty at Oak Ridge Associated Universities. These awards enrich the research and professional growth of young faculty and result in new funding opportunities.
Dr. Emily Griffith – Dennis Boos Citizenship Award 2017-2018
This award is made in recognition of Professor Griffith’s outstanding teaching, consulting, and all-around service to the Department. Her welcoming spirit, willingness to take on new tasks such as the Consulting Core Directorship, and her open-door policy make her a role model of Departmental Citizenship.
Dr. Butch Tsiatis – Cavell Brownie Award 2017-2018
This award is made in recognition of Professor Tsiatis’s outstanding record as advisor and mentor to 41 PhD students (26 at NC State) and the 74 papers co-authored with them.
